Apple’s plans for new high-end MacBooks are coming into focus after recent Bloomberg reports, with a MacBook Ultra and new M6 MacBook Pro both now expected to launch this fall.
Two new high-end MacBooks now expected later this year
Apple has long been rumored to have a new high-end MacBook coming this fall.
Mark Gurman’s reporting at Bloomberg this week strongly supports the latter, while adding that a new MacBook Pro is on the way too.
Including the same exact chips as the MacBook Pro received months ago seems to lend fresh support to this being a brand new, distinct ‘MacBook Ultra’ line.
All that said, based on these rumors, we’re now expecting two new high-end MacBooks this fall:

Details
Originally, it was expected to be a fully redesigned MacBook Pro. But more recently, rumors have indicated it could be an all-new ‘MacBook Ultra’ instead.
Today Gurman reported that the touchscreen MacBook with all-new design will run M5 Pro and M5 Max chips and be “positioned at the top of Apple’s lineup.”
Additionally, yesterday Gurman reported that a new MacBook Pro with M6 chip is expected this fall too. He wrote:
Apple has tested the M6 chip as part of a refreshed entry-level MacBook Pro, code-named J804, which has been planned for this year
That detail was part of a broader piece explaining that Apple plans to skip M6 Pro and M6 Max chips to fast-track high-end M7 chips instead.
